Webinar: Indian Dairy Opportunities

India – with a significant share of 20% of the global production – is the largest dairy producer in the world. The
estimated market size of the dairy industry is approx. US$ 140 billion and is growing at an average of 4.5% per
year.

The consumer demand is rising rapidly, fuelled by the change in lifestyles in India and the demand for
nutritious food. The Indian government, not unaware of these recent developments, is investing heavily in the
sector and is also offering subsidies and cheaper loans to create a robust milk-processing infrastructure. The
latest budget promises to bring in DKK 60 billion of investment to double the existing milk processing capacity
by 2025, as the system presently can handle 25% of total production.

Tap into huge market potentials
Due to changing market dynamics and rising demand, the Indian dairy industry is increasingly embracing
modernisation. There is a fast-paced consolidation taking place in production, as well as a trend towards value
addition with growing consumption of milk and value-added milk products. The industry in recent times has not
only witnessed entry of global players such as Lactalis, Danone and Fonterra etc. It has also seen the scaling
up of operations by local and already present global players. As a result, there is a growing focus on efficient
and quality milk production, by way of improved genetics, feed & nutrition and farm management etc.

Large investments in the milk processing value chain are creating a demand for innovative and advanced milk
processing solutions with high focus on food safety. In order to achieve an effective market linkage, the
government has established financial subsidies and cheaper loans to strengthen the cold chain structure.
Although Denmark with a strong dairy brand is well placed in the Indian market, not many Danish solutions are
visible.

We at the DAFC, TC Delhi and IDCC invite Danish agri-food companies to join us on an online call, which will
illustrate the current situation on the large and expanding dairy sector in India and also highlight the market
possibilities for tapping into the dairy market in the post-COVID-19 era.
